   At AB&I, maintaining a clean, healthy, and safe environment are top priorities. Though founded on OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program, the AB&I Environmental, Health, and Safety Program doesn't stop with the basic requirements. Team members are thoroughly trained in the goals and objectives of the Program, and are well equipped to meet or exceed those goals. Workplace safety and cleanliness are critically important to all team members, and AB&I's many awards and media recognition testify to the foundry's long-standing commitment to being a great place to work, as well as being responsible neighbors and stewards of our local environment. Like our parent company, McWane, we do it safely, or not at all.

 
A Message from the President,

AB&I has been producing quality cast iron products for over a hundred years. Founded in the wake of the Great San Francisco Earthquake and Fire of 1906, AB&I has long taken its social and environmental responsibilities very seriously.

We led the way in the 1970s and 1980s with workplace safety enhancements, long before government regulations required them. Likewise for environmental improvements. Today, the foundry is cleaner and greener than ever, and our investment in new technology to make even further improvements continues.

AB&I enjoys an outstanding workplace safety record, far exceeding industry norms and standards. A major recycler, AB&I uses thousands of tons of recycled iron each year, decreasing the load on landfills. Virtually all consumables used by the foundry are recycled, making us a near-zero contributor of solid waste. And modern foundry air pollution technology has dramatically reduced emissions while making the foundry a safer, cleaner place to work.

AB&I does all this, not as a begrudging nod to governmental regulations, but because it's the right thing to do. Our future depends on maintaining a safe and clean workplace, and every team member is committed to making constant improvements so that AB&I continues to set the standards as the Foundry of the Future.

AB&I Environmental Achievements
   The goal of the AB&I environmental program is to protect the environment for generations to come. Through a comprehensive program of water treatment, air pollution reduction, recycling, and solid-waste management, AB&I has set the standard for responsible foundry practices and policies. For example, since 2006, AB&I has reduced natural gas usage by 45%, and has cut energy consumption by 5 million kilowatt hours.
   AB&I's Environmental Program is based on the ISO 14000 standards for management, measurement, evaluation and auditing of environmental progress. By investing heavily in pollution-control technologies, AB&I has been able to dramatically improve environmental quality, both in the foundry and in the surrounding community.

AB&I Health and Safety Achievements
   The health and well-being of all team members, as well as the community at large, are major concerns at AB&I. In just the past two years, over $7,000,000 have been invested in capital improvements and training to make AB&I an even better neighbor, and a cleaner, safer place to work.
   Although AB&I's record of worker safety is the envy of the industry, an additional program of machine guarding and a new lockout/tagout system promise to improve that record even further. A thorough commitment to team member training, and a continual emphasis on the importance of safety, characterize AB&I's dedication to maintaining a truly outstanding workplace for all.
